Peace & Lemonade

If you’ve ever felt like your little world is full of inconveniences and ill-timed ailments while the big world is raging with turmoil, this post is for you.

The thing about life and timing is that, for all the beauty of its unpredictability, there is also chaos. We cannot plan when things will go wrong, just as we cannot be sure when they will go right. All we can do is hope, wish, and pack accordingly. But there is always a chance we will end up with sour lemons; thus, we must be prepared with our best lemonade recipe.

Someone, somewhere, once thought, maybe I can add some sugar to balance this tart and make something that makes your mouth pucker and smile all at once. We aren’t usually handed the whole equation to happiness; it comes in parts, and we have to figure out how to calibrate it all. So, if you end up with the Summer 2025 mystery virus and a prosthetic leg that isn’t holding suction on vacation to the mountains, you take a moment to think about what you do have. A rental car and a ticket to Rocky Mountain National Park that gets you access to some of the most scenic driving roads in the country? Check. Suddenly, you have Colorado lemonade.

When it comes to global chaos, the solution is a much more complicated recipe that we cannot fully place on our shoulders. Although it’s important to stay informed on what is going on in the world and educate ourselves enough to learn what aligns with our values and morals so that we are prepared when it’s time to take action at the ballot box, we all must find enough peace to lay our heads down at night and rest. We cannot take on the weight of the world. Our own little world is enough weight to bear.

In my mind, peace and lemonade is sitting on a front porch rocking chair with a cool glass in my hand and a cotton candy sunset in front of me. Find what it looks like for you and go there.

May your lemonade always be the perfect balance of tart and sweet, served in a tall glass with Chick-fil-A-style nugget ice.
